Kia wasn’t crazy about the power figure for the GT versions of the EV3; EV4 The EV5, which gets a second motor and better performance, isn’t as quick EV6 GT madness. Until now, only single-engine, front-wheel drive versions were available for all three models, and driver excitement was clearly not a priority.
But Kia promises that the GT models “pair emotional driving with advanced digital experiences” thanks not only to more power but also a dedicated GT driving mode and electronically adjustable suspension. The non-GT versions have very soft and comfort-oriented suspension settings, so it will be interesting to see how much they tighten up.
It also receives modifications and decals to the exterior design to reflect its enhanced sporty character, while inside it features body-hugging sports seats, a three-spoke GT steering wheel and a standard GT steering wheel. Synthetic engine sounds complete with virtual gear shifting It means giving a completely silent electric car the feel of a real performance car.
EV3 GT (compact crossover) and EV4 GT (hatchback or compact sedan) delivers a combined 282 horsepower from a 194-hp front motor and a smaller 94-hp rear motor. Kia gave the EV5 GT a bit more power with a total of 302 hp, thanks to the more powerful 208 hp front motor.
Rumors have suggested that Kia will give the smaller GT models closer to 400 horsepower, but even if that doesn’t materialize, all of these cars are significantly faster in GT form. The quickest is the EV4 GT, which can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, while the EV3 GT needs 5.7 seconds and the larger, heavier EV5 GT needs 6.2 seconds.
We don’t know what the WLTP range rating is for any of these new GT cars. They all have the same 81.4 kWh battery pack, which gives the EV3 up to 376 miles (605 km), the EV4 up to 391 miles (633 km) and the EV5 up to 344 miles (555 km). Each will have less range with the additional power draw and weight of the second engine.
“Kia’s new GT EV models prove that electric vehicles can be both emotional and assertive,” said Sohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe. “The EV3 GT, EV4 GT and EV5 GT will provide engaging and inspiring driving, combining the instant response of electric power with sporty character and all-purpose capability. These GT cars are designed for those looking for the best of both worlds: excitement while embracing the future of responsible mobility.”
