However, after analyzing the defective parts, Ford concluded that there was nothing actually mechanically wrong and that a software update was sufficient to fix the problem.
The update, which affects the Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Module C (SOBDMC), can be installed at a dealer or over the air. However, the actual software that is supposed to solve the problem is not yet available, as Ford expects it to be released “in the future.”
If the shift lever is attached to the slide bar, vehicle P will not appear on the dashboard when the shift lever is set to Park, and the service symbol will pop up. In this case, owners should ensure that the parking brake is engaged and is in working condition.
