the Ford e-Transit The electric truck isn’t getting a new generation. The American automaker confirmed this step in the same document it announced Ford F-150 Lightning canceled electric pickups and the company’s shift to hybrids and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).
The electric Transit van went into production in late 2021 at Ford’s Kansas City assembly plant, and has been sold with minimal changes since then. The battery will be upgraded in 2024resulting in increased range numbers and faster charging times, but the rest remains mostly the same, including the rear electric motor.

That was all to change when the E-Transit’s planned successor entered production “in the middle of the decade.” Ford announced a new generation of electric trucks in 2023, and the first models were scheduled to roll off the assembly line in Ohio in 2026, but this plan was cancelled, as Ford It is moving away from large electric cars in favor of hybrid engines.
The company is still moving forward with its plan to bring it Affordable electric pickup in 2027but electronic transportation is not part of that plan — or any other plan for that matter.
When the current generation Ford E-Transit is discontinued in North America, it will be replaced by a “new, affordable commercial van” powered by gas or hybrid engines, the automaker said. It’s not clear when the current electric model will be retired, but seeing as how the Blue Oval automaker mercilessly pulled the plug on the F-150 Lightning electric truck, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the same thing happen to the E-Transit in the following weeks.
The E-Transit is also sold in Europe, where production of its replacement is scheduled to begin soon. That won’t happen anymore, but the company said it will continue to sell its full range of electric trucks there. Along with the E-Transit, Ford sells the Transit Courier electric van, as well as the Transit Custom electric van, which is based on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen Transporter. There’s also the Transit Connect, which is based on the Volkswagen Caddy, but the only electric version is a plug-in hybrid.

Despite holding the title of America’s best-selling electric truck for a long time, the Ford E-Transit’s sales numbers have never been great. In 2023, the US battery-powered commercial vehicle sold 7,672 units, followed by 12,610 units in 2024, according to Cox Automotive. However, sales this year saw a sharp decline, with just 430 delivered in the third quarter and 4,604 in the January-October period.
