- The 2028 Volvo EX60 Cross Country builds on Volvo’s long history of muscle wagons.
- All-wheel drive comes standard, with no less than 503 horsepower and a range of more than 300 miles.
- The EX60 Cross Country also has something neither the Rivian R2 nor Tesla Model Y has: adjustable air suspension.
Completely new Volvo EX60 It’s here, but the Swedish automaker had one of the best up its sleeve at the launch event in Stockholm today: the EX60 Cross Country. It’s the latest in a long line of rugged-looking Volvos, stretching back to 1997 when the V70 XC debuted.
On a regular basis EX60the 2028 Volvo EX60 Cross Country comes with all the good features of the base model, but ups the game with something that few, if any, models in this segment currently offer: adjustable air suspension.

I remember when the first generation Audi A6 Allroad debuted. I was impressed with how its air suspension transformed it from a road-going wagon into a more capable crossover that can handle rougher terrain than its competitors. Over time, even rugged-looking wagons and SUVs settled for more traditional suspension — mostly to cut costs — but also because many people don’t actually use their cars for off-roading.
but Volvo Restores the air springs of the EX60 Cross Country, increasing both Rivian R2 and Tesla Model Y. Neither can be equipped with factory-adjustable air suspension. This type of damping system is now found in flagships such as Tesla Model and Rivian R1Sbut “lesser” models have to settle for conventional springs and dampers.

Volvo said the EX60 Cross Country is 20 mm (0.8 in) higher than the standard version, with an additional 20 mm available at the touch of a button. Furthermore, the air suspension system itself can lower the vehicle at high speeds, improving efficiency and maintaining range.
As with every other Cross Country model, the new EX60 comes with exclusive wheels, black livery, wider wheel arches, and a few Cross Country badges. Volvo says the powerful EV also has stainless steel skid plates at the front and rear, and there’s a special Frost Green exterior color exclusive to the EX60 Cross Country.
Inside, it’s the same story as with the standard EX60. There’s a huge central touchscreen display, as well as a spacious digital instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel. Most of the controls are integrated into the main screen, but there is a small crystal wheel that handles the volume control.
Volvo EX60 Cross Country: Range, charging and power
The Volvo EX60 Cross Country will only be available with dual-motor all-wheel drive and two battery and power options. The P10 AWD comes with a usable 91 kWh battery that allows an estimated range of 300 miles. The battery can receive up to 370 kilowatts of power from a DC fast charger, delivering a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes. AC charging reaches 19.2 kW.

The European version of the EX60 has a CCS2 charging port, but the US version will have a native NACS port.

The front and rear motors, designed in-house by Volvo, produce a combined 503 horsepower and 524 pound-feet of torque, enabling the 5,000-pound electric vehicle to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 112 mph.
The range is slightly larger than the standard EX60 at the moment. Volvo says the P10 AWD model will offer more than 300 miles on a full charge, though no official estimate has been released yet. The automaker also says that a P12 AWD model is due to launch next with a “longer range.” In the standard EX60, the P12 AWD model’s 112 kWh (usable) battery pack gets a 400-mile range. But the EX60 Cross Country only comes with 21-inch wheels, so we’ll see what difference that makes, if any.
The larger battery needs 19 minutes to go from 10% to 80%, which is a small trade-off compared to its smaller-capacity sibling. As for power, the P12 produces a whopping 670 horsepower and 583 pound-feet, resulting in a sub-4-second 0-60 mph time. Volvo hasn’t released the official figure for the EX60 Cross Country P12 AWD yet, but the regular EX60 with the same powertrain can do it in 3.8 seconds.
Both models take advantage of the latest and greatest manufacturing technology, including cell-to-body batteries, mass transmission, and ultra-efficient electronic motors.
Volvo EX60 Cross Country: Price and availability
This is a big one. The standard Volvo EX60 will go on sale this summer in the US as a 2027 model, and the mid-grade P10 AWD model is expected to cost “about $60,000.” That’s great news for people waiting for the next generation of electric vehicles to arrive in the U.S., and it’s bad news for the upcoming BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, both of which are more expensive.
When it comes to the EX60 Cross Country, patience is key. According to Volvo, the rugged-looking electric crossover will make its way to the US in the summer of 2027 as a 2028 model, and should carry a hefty price tag, considering it’s the top-spec model. The EX60 and EX60 Cross Country, which are manufactured in Sweden, are already available for pre-order in some European countries.
