China’s Wuling, in partnership with General Motors of America, launched the new Xingguang 560 SUV in China.

The Xingguang 560 will be offered with gasoline, plug-in hybrid and fully electric drive options. It is larger than the Chevrolet Equinox, and its price starts at $8,581.

General Motors seeks to continue its success in the Chinese market with the Wuling Xingguang 560, a mid-sized crossover.

The company did not reveal many details, but the car features a slim front grille surrounded by slanted headlights with X-shaped daytime running lights.

The front end also varies depending on the payment system. It is closed in the electric versions, and open in the version equipped with an internal combustion engine.

At the back, there is plastic body cladding and the option of a contrasting roof, along with stylish wheels, a spoiler mounted on the tailgate, and X-shaped taillights. The design of the rear pillar and window treatment bears a clear resemblance to the Subaru Forester.

The Xingguang 560 is about 4,745 meters long, 1,850 meters wide, and 1,755 meters high with a wheelbase of 2,810 meters, which reflects the spaciousness of the cabin.

For comparison, it is longer than the Chevrolet Equinox by about 0.091 metres.

The cabin is based on a simple design, with a digital instrument panel and an infotainment system that is said to have a 12.8-inch screen.

In addition to a two-spoke steering wheel, distinctive air vents, and a central console that appears to be equipped with two wireless chargers for smartphones.

Wuling did not go into many details, but indicated that the crossover provides a loading space of up to 1,945 liters when the second row is fully folded, with more than 25 storage spaces, including a hidden space under the rear seats.

What about payment system options?

The Xingguang 560 will be offered with a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine that generates 174 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque, with a 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

A plug-in hybrid version is also available with a total WLTC range of up to 684 miles (1,100 km).

The company did not provide additional details, but a local report stated that this version is based on a 1.5-liter engine and provides a pure electric range of 78 miles (125 km).

Finally, a fully electric version is available with a range of up to 311 miles (500 km) according to the CLTC standard, with a 60 kWh battery and a 134 hp (100 kW) electric motor.

Wuling is offering introductory prices between $8,581 (59,800 yuan) and $13,746 (95,800 yuan), with prices later rising to between $9,155 and 14,751 (63,800 – 102,800 yuan).
