Nissan of Japan has updated its Clipper Truck in the Kai pickup truck category in Japan for $8,500.
Nissan Clipper truck is a replica of the Suzuki Carry
This update comes after Suzuki’s recent facelift on the Carry and Super Carry models, which share engineering foundations with the Nissan Clipper truck.
The previous version of the Nissan Clipper featured a Nissan-specific grille, but now it looks like a Suzuki Carry, or even an exact copy.
The only visual element that distinguishes the Nissan Clipper from the Suzuki Carry is the Nissan logo mounted on the front of the short, cab-over-style truck.
The Nissan Clipper truck debuted in 2003 as a renamed version of the Mitsubishi Minicab. In 2013, Nissan moved into a partnership with Suzuki, making the Clipper based on the Suzuki Carry starting from the second generation, and today it enters the latest stages of its modernization.
Compared to the previous version, the Clipper received slimmer LED headlights, a modified air intake in the bumper, new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensors, and a new color was added to the color palette, Moss Gray.
The Nissan version is not available with a higher roof and an extended cab structure or what is called a cab and a half like the Suzuki Super Carry, nor does it get any off-road versions like Suzuki’s X Limited series, as its focus remains focused on being a basic work truck.
Nissan Clipper truck cabin and safety updates
The Clipper’s cabin feels like it’s stuck in the 1990s, with bare metal and hard plastic dominating most of the details. However, it was not without some noteworthy upgrades, most notably a new digital instrument cluster, integrated headrests, and a dedicated tray for small items in the equipment list.
A cup holder for the passenger and a USB port have also been added, while the center console accommodates an optional 8-inch infotainment screen.
The Clipper is now available with lane departure prevention systems, traffic sign recognition, and emergency stop signs, in addition to a pedal misuse control system. It is also equipped with a front sensor that activates the smart braking system in emergency situations.
Nissan Clipper mechanical specifications
The payment system has not changed; There is a small 658 cm³ three-cylinder engine that generates 50 hp (37 kW / 50 PS) and 59 Nm (43.5 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission with rear or all-wheel drive.
Sales of the 2026 Nissan Clipper begin in Japan on January 23, and the price starts at 1,344,200 yen (about 8,500 dollars) and reaches 1,676,400 yen (10,600 dollars) for higher categories.
This puts it higher than the base price of the Suzuki Carry, which starts at 1,172,600 yen ($7,500), despite the almost complete similarity in components.
